amd hsf or not

i am getting an amd barton 2500. i don't know whether to get the retail or oem version. i wanted to know how load or quiet the stock hsf is. the hsf i would probably get if i went oem would be the artic cooling tc super silent pro.

The hsf on the retail 2500+ is very effective and quiet. Perhaps not the best for serious overclocking, but I've never had a problem with them.

I happen to have the retail 2500+ heatsink/fan unit right here. It's pretty mellow, makes a mild whirrrrr noise. Here, hold your mouse up to your ear, ok? 😉

Well heck, since I have the ability, here's an AVI showing an 18dB NMB 80mm fan, a 38dB Coolermaster DP5 variant, and the retail 2500+ HSF unit: linkie It's about 3Mb.

BTW, the cooler is an all-copper unit with a nickel plating and a three-lug clip.

I'm surprised how cool the barton 2500+ runs, compared to my XP1900+ Palomino core its about a 15c temp difference running at stock temps with my Alpha 8045. I ran the stock heatsink for a bit and its runs pretty cool even though it needed a serious lapping.
