Not a bad idea. Manufacturing is expensive. AMD the chip company will be like Nvidia now and be able to make designs and fab it in their own factory or use other companies. Meanwhile the manufacturing side can take orders from other companies with the aura of being AMD.

This isnt a bad move imo. Plus if the manufacturing side craps with its high costs the chip design side wont be affected.

Well it does make the chip side fatally dependent on the mfg side. If the foundry co folds shop then the chip side is screwed as they won't have a second source.

AMD cannot suddenly migrate their chip production from Foundry Co to TSMC in 20 days.

There is a reason that most chip companies that can afford to own their fabs do own their fabs. Going fabless is viewed as a last resort for a LOT of good reasons.

I would assume if the manufacturing side is going tits up they would know about it well before 20 days and make plans accordingly. This allows the chip design side to be free of the costs associated with manufacturing.

Hardly, the costs on manufacturing side are passed on in a higher cost per chip.

Nothing is free.
