AMD FX6300 Vishera - stock heatsink or old Sunbeam 120mm CoreContact Freezer?

My old PC kind of went belly up on me last week, and it's apparently that time for a new motherboard, processor and memory.

Anyway, I got an AMD FX-6300 Vishera processor, and apparently it comes with some kind of heat sink in the box. I also have my old Sunbeam 120mm CoreContact Freezer which did a yeoman's job with my old Phenom 9950 X4 Black Edition.

I can't really find much info on the stock AMD heat sink/fan combos.... is it better than an old CoreContact Freezer, or should I give the old girl a new lease on life and put it on the new processor?

Are you going to overclock the cpu? If not then the stock hsf will be fine but if you plan on overclocking or just want to keep noise and some temps down then an after market hsf will be better. I'm not familiar with your Sunbeam (looked at a pic) If your Sunbeam fits it would be better I'm thinking but there probably are better out by now in the $30 range and right now you may grab a nice holiday sale on one.

That Sunbeam looks beastly. If I had something like that lying around I wouldn't even think of the stock cooler. At worst you'd have to replace the old fan if it's gone noisy and since it's a standard 120mm you have plenty of choices.

fx 6300 usually overclocks well with a decent cooler. That sunbeam appears to have several heat pipes. I say use it.
