Very good chip for that price.

The sad thing is many people do not need such power and they would be better off with saving money and investing it somewhere else in the computer like an SSD.

And then there are people on the opposite end of the scale who need even more power.

There are very few people in the middle.

----

Dr. Ian Cutress of Anandtech just recently did a review on a similar FX processor located here

Now the 8310 is actually faster than the 8320e even though it has a lower model number. It really does not make sense since the cpus were released on the same day.

8310_ is 95 watts tdp, runs at 3.4 ghz no turbo, 3.7 ghz turbo if all 4 modules are active, 4.3 ghz turbo if 2 modules are active

8320E is 95 watts tdp, runs at 3.2 ghz no turbo, 3.5 ghz turbo if all 4 modules are active, 4.0 ghz turbo if 2 modules are active

So the 8310 is Same TDP, but runs 6 to 7% higher mhz depending if turboing or not.

----

As you can see for the price it is the market leader for performance. Much faster multi thread and similar single threaded performance as the pentium g3258 Anandtech review of the g3258 so you can compare numbers

If your price range is roughly a $100 you can not do better than this chip. You need to spend roughly $200 or even more to get better performance.

ARMA 3 is said to be very GPU-intensive, and many of today's games still don't utilize multiple CPU cores as much as say, video encoding, so you may not see much difference with this processor upgrade. The 660 ti is nice, but if you're looking to improve gaming performance, you might be better off looking for a newer gen video card.

I'm running an older FX 6100... worth the upgrade, or should I wait for my next overhaul? I've been worried about bottlenecking on a few games, particularly Arma series. Running a geforce gtx 660ti.

My guess is that it would probably not be worth the upgrade, especially if you have your FX6100 overclocked a little bit. The turbo speed on your cpu is already 3.9 GHz, which should be able to handle just about anything out there at playable framerates. I upgraded from a Phenom II X4 (3.4 Ghz) to a Core i5 (overclocked to 4.2Ghz) and I was a bit disappointed in the gaming improvement - upgrading my video card had a much better effect. If you can buy this and sell your old cpu for $40 or so, then it's not a bad upgrade, but you probably won't notice much difference.

A little.

Personally, I'd just overclock that X6, though overclocking the FX would be much easier because it's unlocked.

It may even beat the 8370E with it's 3.3Ghz/4.3Ghz clocks and $190 price tag. It boggles the mind.

I ordered an 8310 to compare (both power and performance) against the 95W FX-6300 that I already have. After the 6300 gets sold on ebay, I figure the upgrade will only cost ~$25 or so.

Core i7 performance for Core i3 price. Unfortunately I've had a lot of negative experience with TD...this is very hard to pass on though.

trying to decide if this is worth the upgrade from my 1090T... I suspect not for most tasks.

In on one, Thanks. Now to figure out what motherboard and memory to get. Going to be a huge upgrade over my AMD FX-55. heh

Lol, yep.

If you're that far behind, another terrific upgrade would be a SSD. They're pretty cheap now, too.

I would still recommend putting that money towards RAM if you make good use of suspend. Prefetch and 16GB RAM made the difference unnoticeable excepting bootup times. I paid $50 or so after rebate for a 240GB SSD, honestly don't even think that was worth it.
