AMD folk prefer ATI, Intel split?

Exactly. Matter of fact, I just switched out my 9800 ATi to a 6800 GT on a AMD box. But my allegiance for AMD is much stronger than what I would have for any video card. Mostly because we know more about how AMD/Intel CPUs work unlike ATI/Nvidia GPU's.

its kinda wierd...ive always seen it like this
INTEL and Nvidia always paired
AMD and ATI always paired

for some reason it makes sense, to me anyway, intel and nv always used to be the best and the most expensive, and AMD and ATI were for the poor joe

now AMD and ATI have products that mop the floor with the competition while maintaining that edge with nice prices....well AMD at least, i see nvidias 6800gt is a tad cheaper than ati x800pro

the best should be paired with the best....in my eyes AMD have the best processor for gaming, and ati have the best GPU for gaming

Intel rock at stuff like Divx'ing and encoding and media and i think Nvidia are pretty handy with the workstation cards the quadro's blitz atis fireGL's

AMD and ATI always paired for video atleast maybe??? I think most of the motherboards on this forum are probably Nforce 1 or 2 so I would says AMD and Nvidia are probably pretty good buds too.

Amd and Nvidia should have a better pairing, because Nvidia makes AMD compatible chipsets. ATI and Intel should be better together, because ATI makes Intel compatible chipsets.

I can see why people on Anandtech would go AMD and ATI for the reasons JBT stated. In fact I have that setup, but voted AMD/Nvidia, because my 9800Pro is just a placeholder for my next Nvidia card. If I didn't get it for $129 at Compgeeks I'd still use my ti4200 as my primary video card. Pre 9700 ATI cards were always junk to me, and I don't think I'll ever shake that feeling. Who knows how long it will last...I felt the same about AMD (mainly Via) until I did the AMD64/Farcry deal and the install was smooth as butter.

And there are some people like me that break the norm. Last round, I was AMD/Nvidia and then last month I went Intel/Ati. Check sig.

What are your thoughts?

You should make another poll asking, "What will you have in a few months from now."
I'd be curious to see the CPU/GPU combos people are interested in getting and dont already have.

AMD for gaming no doubt. But GPU? tough decision.

I agree with Keys, asking "waddaya got" doesn't really mean anything. Currently, I have Intel/nVidia. The P4 was a faster gaming chip than the AthlonXP when I got the P4, and with my last upgrade it was much cheaper to stick with a faster P4 than it was to get a new A64, new mobo, and new RAM for a slight bump in performance. If it was up tp me, it would be A64 FX/6800UE, but now it's P4/6800GT (not that I'm complaining).

Agree. For me, Athlon 64 and Nvidia 6800GT. Even though I don't really game in Linux, but 3D acceleration in Linux is important, and I'd be back to using Nvidia (and to some extent, 3Dfx). Just waiting for the prices to drop a bit.

It means "What do you got?". I wasn't looking for angles, I was just so surprised to see the AMD/ATI trend emerge. Even moreso, I was very interested to see so many AMD users, though many have pointed out, it may make sense here. To be honest, IMO the reality of now is far more telling than the hypothetical reality of tomorrow. If posed with the question "What will your machine be by December?" , well I don't know. How telling is that? Is it what I'd like it to be, or what I anticipate it to be?. Neither a certainty. Also, I don't believe that the majority of voters (near 200) will be upgrading this generation, so there is some relevance to current configurations.
Something else I was trying to learn was how AMD/Intel or Nvidia/ATI heavy AT is. I was strikingly way off in my assumption just by reading the Video threads. I thought ATI/Nvidia would be like 50/50. I would also have never guessed that a good 80% of users are AMD. I was thinking maybe 60/40. Craziness, but I am very excited with the results.

Sorry, but I think a poll about what you want is an interesting idea, but such results won't IMO, "really mean anything". It's kind of like saying you'll have a ferrari in ten years... 🙁

Thanks... now I know you think I'm an idiot.... 🙂 Maybe asking what people prefer would be a better way of finding out, well, what they prefer....

No, I did not think such a thing. 😉 Well, if you want to start that preference poll, I'll support it by putting in my vote which will be:

AMD/😕

odd, considering athlon xp's are worse than , and last generation ATI cards were better than their competition...

That may be, but both were a better value than the competition. The results make perfect sense to me; AT readers are typically educated consumers when it comes to anything tech-related.

I am definitely going AMD/Nvidia next round.......although ATi still rules i just prefer Nvidia 🙂

...exactly. What the majority of people own is usually going to also reflect the best value - assuming that most Anandtechers are well informed, which I think is a fair assumption to make.

No offense taken 🙂

I was considering a poll on whether or not AT forums thought I was an idiot... I might not like the results. 🙂
