I was curious if anyone new if the AMD Athlon 64 X2 series prices were going to go down andtime soon. I wanted to buy a 3800+ but the price shot up 30 dollars from 160-190. Anyone know if they will be coming down or should i just satisfy myself with a 3700+ Venice?

I got an 4800+ last week for $250 and there are still some good deals out there if you look. It seems that the frenzy has caused prices to rise, but patience should be the standard now. Check AT's FS/T and you might find something.
or here

Good hunting.

pkme2,

Where did you get your's? I'm about to order a 4400 from Newegg at the same price, but I wouldn't mind getting more for the dollar.

If you need a new 939 X2 I would get it now before it's gone. If you don't mind a used chip then sit tight.

There's no reason for them to go down in the short term, AMD is running at full capacity and still can't keep up.

Another question, I just bought a 939 motherboard. Should I return it to NewEgg and purchase a AM2 motherboard?

well they are slower than the intels now so there should be some pressure to drop prices

I would think with quad cores on the horizon that prices would drop, but it seems that there are a lot of people grabbing up the 939s so the prices went up to reflect that.

I'll be putting my year old 3800+ X2 chip on the FS/FT forum sometime this weekend if you're interested. Will come with a Zalman HSF. Just upgrade to a C2D system, so I don't need it anymore. I overclocked my chip, but not by much. Stock is 2.2, I ran it at 2.45 the whole time I had it with no problems ever.

Yeah blurred I'm very interested! Do you have an e-mail address or an AIM account or something so that we can get in touch... Negotiate prices, more info etc...

You have to take out the REMOVE line....these forums are designed to put that in everyone's email to stop spam bots from harvesting emails. Take that out, and you have my email :).

I noticed that no one really has much for sale in the FS/T forum. I've had a WTB X2 CPU socket 939 thread for a while and nobody has replied. It seems they're becoming harder to get and or everyone just went over with Conroe lol.

AMD sales are good right now with holiday spending approaching. I see no pressure to lower prices. However, if they start losing measurable market share to Intel's Core 2 Duo, then that is a downward pressure.
