Ok, for all of those that are confused:

The optimizer and the microsoft hotfix are the same god damn thing. The reason AMD released the optimizer, is because not everyone is aware that there is a hotfix. actually unless you read forums, for sure you dont know there is a hotfix. you cant even download it from microsoft without the genuine validation crap. so its just easier for the user to download both things form the amd website.

You either install one or the other. If you want both, sure go ahead a little extra has never hurt.

I have installed the driver and the optimizer right now, but before i had formatted i had the driver and the hotfix. I can confirm both work, and old games like cs 1.6 run just fine.

Will it show up under the auto updates when I format and build the comp or is there another area you have to go DL it. I am speaking about Micorsoft of course.

I always point people to this link when they want to know about the hotfix.

I was under the impression that the AMD Dual Core Optimizer was actually a replacement for both the MS Hotfix AND the typical AMD Processor Driver. Am I incorrect or is it just the MS Hotfix in a different wrapper?

It's not the typical AMD Dual Core Processor Driver. It's just a replacement for the Hotfix if I'm correct. You still need the driver, though.

Thanks, that clears that up. So, processor driver first followed by dual core optimizer and no need for the MS hotfix....
