I just bought my in laws a Radeon R5 240 which is a rebadge of the HD 5450 and i am impressed the box even states this. At least AMD or MSI is being truthful here. But does this mean if AMD drivers no longer support the HD 5xxx series i will be out of drivers or will i get drivers until the R5 series is unsupported? Not that it matters but i bought this for my in laws so they could have windows 10 since their IGP HD 3200 is unsupported.

Huh? The R5 240 is an Oland part, GCN 1.0. The 5450 (Cedar) rebadge is the Radeon R5 210.

Anyhow, to answer the question, yes, driver support for any Cedar product will end when the 5000 series is dropped. Driver support is based on the GPU, not the branding.

this card is GCN, so it gets a WDDM 2.0 driver, and even the HD5450 currently have a win 10 driver available (but it's WDDM 1.3)

Can you either take a picture of the box or download GPU-Z and take a screenshot of what's there? Nothing that you've said so far makes sense. There aren't any 5000-series rebrands in the 200-series, and the 400-series doesn't come until next year.

Here is the product search for micro center and you can seen on the box it is an R5 450 but the title is a HD 5450.

No, it's just R5450, not R5-450. It's just an HD5450.

It's a 2010 vintage card.

R5450 is just MSI's part number.

It's a pre-GCN card.

i confused it with AMD rebadging. Oh well it supports Windows 10 so my in laws can use it and i only spend $20

I was going to say, a POX on AMD if they are still respinning the 5450. I hope you payed like $10 after rebates for that card. The HD 6450 is around the same price and twice as many SP.

Yeah, it'll work. I suspect AMD will discontinue support by 2017 (going by past support lifecycles), but even then it shouldn't stop working.

Doh live and learn; can you take it back for another? :D

I don't need to, it supports the newest driver for Win 10 and will go in my in laws PC which currently has an onboard HD 3200 and the price was right, $20 after rebate.
