Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.6.1 Highlights
  • Support for:
    • Mirror's Edge Catalyst™
    • Paragon™
  • New AMD Crossfire profile available for:
    • Dark Souls III™
Fixed Issues
    • Display flickering or corruption may be experienced when playing videos in a web browser.
    • DiRT Rally™ may experience poor performance on some tracks with rainy/night scenes.
    • The HDMI® display scaling options in Radeon Settings may be missing when the display is set to an interlaced resolution.
    • The AMD Crossfire™ technology mode options in Radeon Settings may not take effect on Origin or Uplay applications.
    • Fallout™ 4 may experience flickering in AMD Crossfire™ technology mode for some game textures.
    • Flickering on Oculus Rift™ headsets may be experienced when multiple displays are connected with differing resolutions.
    • Radeon Settings additional settings page may fail to open after performing a Windows Update and then installing the latest Radeon Software Crimson Edition.
Known Issues

    • A few game titles may fail to launch or crash if the AMD Gaming Evolved overlay is enabled. A temporary workaround is to disable the AMD Gaming Evolved "In Game Overlay".
    • Battlefield™ 4 may experience crashes when using Mantle. As a work around users are suggested to switch to DirectX®11.
    • Doom™ some game levels may experience shimmering textures.
    • The Division™ may hang when using Quad AMD Crossfire™ technology. As a workaround users are recommended to disable AMD Crossfire™ technology mode.
    • Radeon Settings gaming profile options for Uplay applications may not take effect.
    • Forza Motorsport 6: Apex™ may exhibit brightness flickering when using AMD FreeSync™ technology.
    • Frame Rate Target Control gaming profiles may fail to enable for some games.
    • On some AMD XConnect™ technology external GPU enclosures, a TDR may be observed when the dGPU is set to primary display and the laptop display is set to extended display with video playback.

Really wish they would get a WHQL version out, since there are still many people out there who can't use non-WHQL drivers because of the DRM crap.

2 driver releases and they fixed the corruption issues. Less than a month of time. Well done AMD.

FYI, those running W10 Insider builds it probably won't install. I'm on build 14342 and get a driver detect error. Looks like there is an issue with the driver signatures.

I've never had any issues installing AMD drivers on insider builds. I didn't have any issues installing these on 14361.

I installed 16.6.1 on 14361 as well. I rolled back to 16.2.1 but that's besides the point . . .

Do these fix the issues of not being able to open "Radeon Settings", when using Intel iGPU as primary display device, and having an AMD card installed as a secondary (such as using it as a Compute card)?

Good question. Sadly, I can't answer that, since my iGPU is AMD.

This new update fixed screen blinking when upscaling a movie to 4k from 1080p on my pioneer. Reportedly some Nvidia users are also facing the same issue. This is a pc software issue, not av hardware issue, for those who're facing such problem as i was.

I'm using this on my sager 4 year old laptop, with 7970m, no problem what so ever with hd audio and stuff. Intel driver updates disabled hd audio on bloody displayport. It actually fixed my upscaling issues which i was facing with the receiver. Actually both Nvidia and AMD users are having this problem with the Pioneer's latest hardware. Now neither dispolayport to hdmi 1.4 adapter works, nor does the hdmi 2.0 adapter works, which is extremely frustrating. When i use the hdmi, it works without a problem.

In case you have a AMD based system, please do ignore my ramblings.

I got that issue with the driver signature on Win7-64bit too. Had to go back to 16.5.

Is there any way to spoof the WHQL?

I'd really like to be able to use HDCP stuff without having to use old buggy drivers.

Unfortunately, no, that isn't possible unless you happen to get the original certs. If you get those, then you can make your own WHQL drivers.

My advice would be not support/buy content with invasive or HDCP DRM. Vote with your wallet. For me update drivers is much more important.

Is this an AMD issue? DRMed content on non-WHQL Nvidia drivers seems to work fine (tested with Amazon's video player in Chrome using the 368.51 hotfix driver which is not WHQL certified).

I was not aware that HDCP required WHQL drivers to function.

This is incredibly hard to do. Neflix and Amazon both use HDCP AFAIK. Amazon requires it for their higher resolution streams so I suppose you could get away with not using it if you can settle for SD resolutions.
