So the first .13 XPs will definitely be 2200+ and not 2000+? They really need to get these out ASAP. A lot of people are getting way too moist over these P4 Northwoods.

I Just hope AMD wisens up and puts a friggin heat spreader on the Thoroughbred Core Chips...
there just isnt enough space to disapate all the heat those things produce, they will be cracking cores like crazy
:(
At least they were smart enough to add one to the Clawhammer

VR-Zone made a mistake. ClawHammer won't be on the .09u SOI process when it debuts as the ClawHammer 3400+ during Q4 this year, it'll be the .13u SOI ClawHammer 3400+.

Also, it looks like AMD will have 1.5GHz .13u 266MHz FSB Durons out during Q2 along with the Athlon XP 2200+ and 2400+ T-breds during Q2. I guess AMD cancelled that .18u 2200+ part and opted for the .13u 2200+ part instead.

M4000 is listed as first half 2003, which could be 2 quarters. The Thoroughbred is based on a smaller process so it should run cooler than the XP's. A heat spreader would nice anyway, the new P4's smaller package with spreader feels a lot less flimsy than the XP's.

M3400 ----------> M4000 in one quarter?!

Yeah, that roadmap looks a little jacked up. From what I've read, AMD won't even start the migration to .90um until the 2nd quarter of 03' much less .65um. Even with some processing tricks (like phase-shift masking) I don't see how they're going to have .09um parts out by the first half of 03'.

Good point....

ST4RCUTTER, you forget that they have UMC has a partner now for making AMD CPU's.

I didn't forget anything about UMC. What does UMC bring to the table other than expanded capacity? They've just begun making product at the .13um node. They will probably assist AMD in the ramp up of .13um Tbreds, but I don't see them helping AMD move towards the .09um node with any greater speed.

ST4RCUTTER, I think you mean .09u, and not .90u. :)

I don't see them helping AMD move towards the .[0]9um node with any greater speed.

UMC and TSMC are always ahead of other semiconductor companies (like AMD, Intel, VIA, etc.). I guess that could speed up the transition, however I wouldn't take this VR-Zone roadmap too seriously.

Doh! You are exactly right. My god I can't believe we've gotten so small...

I agree with you that UMC and TSMC for that matter are ahead of AMD as far as the .13um process is concerned but I have not heard anything significant concerning .09um nodes or below coming from UMC. Certainly agreements such as the one between AMD and UMC will help to defray the costs of the node migration and help speed product to market. My point was that UMC will play the traditional role of a foundry more than as a process partner (such as Motorola's role in past years.)
