The world?s second largest maker of x86 microprocessors, Advanced Micro Devices, disclosed plans to introduce enhanced multi-core processors that support built-in DDR3 memory controller as well as to present platform initiatives that allow more than 8 physical chips to be installed into a single system.

This is kind of good new for those thinking of going M2, it won't be a waste because you'll be able to use your setup for at least 3 years (since AMD will almost certainly only slowly phase out DDR2), and it's good news for those who want 32 CPU systems :D

meh. nothign special. it was expected. when 2008 comes, we'll start saying "OMGWTFBBQSAUCE! a million core cpu's and ddr360 will be out by 2012!"

C'mon, we heard Intel were going to hit something like 6ghz in 2006....

We know how that is going.

We've only just hit dual core and people are fanticising about 32 cores in 3 years time..... and by the time we hit 2008, do you really thing we'll be on DDR3? We'd probably have DDR4 by then.

In the ideal world, sounds fun but until we get 32 core cpu's, be happy playing with your 1 or 2 core setup.

We have DDR2 now, but AMD is not using it....
The point is, IMO, that AMD have indicated they will be using DDR3 com e2008, which means when Socket M2 is released with DDR2 support, there will be at least 3 years of use for it, because the change to DDR3 won't be that quick, which might help people make their decisions.

32 CPU'S, not 32 cores. We're on 8 CPU's already, and 32 isn't that far fetches for servers, neither is quad core CPU's, in 3 years time (in fact, it'd be hard for it NOT to happen).

don't forget the programmer would be jumping out the office building/window because he couldn't handle 100 cores !
