AMD cutting prices again?

A quick summary from the link.
HD 7970
$410-430 (Reference - Custom)

HD 7950
$290-300

HD 7870
$240

HD 7850
$200

Not a major cut if true/so. Looking at newegg most 7950's fit in the $290-320 range albeit with the annoying MIR's.

I guess the 7970's might get a bit of a drop, more than half are under $420 but there are still quite a few for over $450 (again MIR's in play).

They are just trying to undercut the 660. Wow, AMD is really starting to go aggressive on the pricing.

Price wars FTW! As was the case for previous price cuts, these market prices have already been in effect though. Sounds more like a formality to me. Nvidia probably thought that 650/660 would be HD7750/HD7850 competitors but now they will be forced to either lower their launch prices to $99/$199 or end up going against HD7770 and HD7870.

I heard that TSMC 28nm yields were approaching 80%, which would be massively higher than they were 10+ months ago when the initial batch of 7xxx were being made and 7970 was priced at $550. Lower cost of production + higher competition = Lower prices.

Thanks for pointing that out, I did miss it. Clearly the HIS 7870 is the best deal going for a 78xx card.

They should release a 8970 for $399. That would be too good to be true 🙂 Of course not now, but in 2012 H1 🙂

No, $369 or even $299 since GTX780 will have up to 87% more functional units (and 60-70% more performance than a GTX680), making 8970 will be mid-range at best.

I just want the 670 to be cheaper in australia.

Or at least rumours of the 700 series to bait me into waiting.

GIVE ME SOME GOD DAMN RUMOURS INTERNET.

NCIX.com released there weekly sale late last night and there are now a couple 7850's for 179.99 AR

The Asus 7870 is now 209.00 AR with Sleeping Dogs.

Crazy!
