I've been doing some searching for a cool CPU for my SN45G and compiled this table thus far:
Low number is "Typical" thermal dissipation and High number is "Maximum" thermal dissipation.
If anyone can find the info for any others, more specifically the mobiles, It would be much appreciated!

i really wouldn't worry about the temps, my friend personally owns that shuttle and has his barton overclocked to the nomral 3200+ speeds and it runs a nice cool 40Cish.

the XP line really doesn't make all that much heat.
 
A chip obviously can't produce more net heat than it's getting input as total energy. Since the max draw on most Mobile XP's (Barton core) is 35W, that's the Absolute Maximum Heat Output. 🙂

And if you're that concerned, undervolt the processor a quarter or half-volt. Makes a big difference in warmth. But as mentioned, Shuttles were designed with tiny space-constraints in mind, and they handle the heat load admirably.

The max wattage of almost all of the mobile Bartons is 45 watts, not 35 watts. Although, here's a link to the 35 watt XP-M 2400, if you're interested:

Interesting to see the advantage of the 400MHz FSB Barton 3000+ over the 333MHz FSB version. Much lower power requirement should equal lower heat.
 
If the Shuttle is so great at handling temps, why wouldn't it tame my 1.4GHz athlon? It would run in excess of 60°C and was never stable, plus my temp alarm for my HDD kept going off. I downgraded to a Duron (Applebred) @ 1800MHz and am seeing low 40's °C temps now, but many of the XP line have thermal specs close to my original 1.4 athlon.

EDIT> And I know about the 35W and 45W Mobiles, but there are others out there like the 1500+ Mobile that I have not seen thermal specs for yet.

Reapplied Arctic Silver many times to ensure good transfer. Reseated cooler to ensure good contact and mount.

The 1.4 Athlon was one of the hottest chips made, but it seems some of the higher end XP's are creeping up there. I just think this unit I have isn't up to par when it comes to handling temps from higher wattage chips for some reason, I just haven't isolated it yet. For now, I'm sticking to the lower wattages to keep the system going and I'll track it down later when I don't have as much work to do. Right now, reliability and stability are cruical.
 
a 3200 Barton makes about the same amount of heat as the 1.4 athlon B and C thunderbird cores. seems like crummy luck, i can't see shuttle releasing that PC if it can't handle the latest bartons. running a duron must hurt 🙁
 
I have a 2500+ Barton and a 2400+ Mobile on the way to try. Hopefully they will play better with what I have. I went from the 1.4 Athlon to the Duron 1800 so the performance is about equal so far.
 
It's inside using the shroud. I had 2 panaflo's piggybacked as many do over at Sudhian but it was WAY unstable that way. I went back to the stock sunon fan in the stock config and went to a lower wattage chip. I'm gonna add another fan at the top rear of the case and see if that help by getting more airflow through the case. I just haven't decided if it was a temp issue alone or this system just didn't agree with the 1.4 Athlon.
 
hmm then my friend definatly has a different case, his 80mm fan is screwed on externally.

hopefully the system merely didn't agree with the processor, or its older FSB. i'm sure its 200 or 266FSB was a major bottleneck.

Not without knowing the current draw, but you could guesstimate by getting your PR rating from Sandra or a similar benchmark and comparing to the CPU's already listed.

edit: why spend the money on water cooling and settle for 180FSB? even a 250FSB barton at 2.5ghz will still beat yours 🙁

got the kit in a trade my next purchace will be better ram.

going to wait and see how much that new samsung ddr500 is going to cost. they look like the second comming of BH-5
