I recently bought an AMD athlon 1.33GHz cpu (OEM), well at least that was what I was told. Come home, slap it in and the bios reports it as the 1.0GHz. So I'm thinking the store tried to shaft me and hooked me up with one, I will be visiting them very soon to straighten this out. I just wanted to know are there any utils out there to check the processor speed? Also, are there any way of looking at the chip and determining which one it is? I remembered a few years ago when the P3's came out there was a lot of buzz about fake chips and stuff like that and Intel was pushing out this cpu freq. test util program that made sure the chip was an authentic Intel chip, just wondering if AMD has one like this. Couldn't find anything on the AMD site.

TIA!!

Is your 1333 a 266 FSB?
If it is your board has to support 266fsb............older boards only support 200 fsb.
making your 1333 a 10*100 = 1000

If your board supports 266 fsb then 10*133 is 1333

You can check the CPU out, it's on the Core.........really hard to see though.

This is one of the most common questions that is asked here. It's always the same solution. The motherboard's bios defaults the fsb speed to 100mhz, change it to 133mhz. The processor should be fine. I believe you can also get info about your cpu by running sisoft sandra.

Thanks guys, i changed the dip switches for the bus speed and it is reporting as a 1333MHz now.

Um, i thought the fsb speed should be 266? why is it only set at 133MHz?

the FSB on today's pc run at 100 or 133 only.. The 200/266 FSB(ev6) on the athlon Mobo's is due to teh fact the the FSB now transfers data on both the up and down tick of the clock cycle. so 200mhz fsb = 100x2. The intel boards have quad pupmed FSB so they are at 400mhz(100x4) now.
