I am running an X2 4800 with WinXP 32bit (going to install 64bit on another partition so anything here that applies to it also let me know).
The AMD driver seems to be needed only if I want to use CoolnQuiet but otherwise does not do anything, correct? So if I am not insterested in CnQ don't bother?
The MS hotfix changes how XP controls threads to help 'smooth things out" but seems to really only apply to games. It also requires CnQ to be installed/running. Does it help multithreaded apps also somehow?
I do some gaming on this system but use it as my main workstation, I use several multithreaded apps and want the best performance possible (don't we all). I am not interested in CnQ really. This is a new install so I am not sure if I have any issues in games yet but I can set it to one core if needed. I have the system OCed just a touch (about 60MHz), I might mess with for a higher one later.
Thanks in advance.
