AMD cores are surprisingly hard to kill

I mentioned a while ago that I had scraped my new XP core pretty severely. I thought it was done and I was pissed somethin' else. It was, of course, my fault and I felt sufficiently stupid. I put on a cheap heatsink, and when the goober on that heatsink which allows you to get some leverage with a screwdriver broke off, I had to wrangle the little SOB. In the process, I scraped an edge of the core, and some of you told me I had just made a new kechain :)

Anyway, I just stuck it in another box and it's runnin' fine. Wonderfully, in fact. Not to blame anybody who told me I screwed up; it's not like I provided pictures or anything.

Anyway, apparently an XP core takes a whole lot of beating.

unfortunately, depending on how you scraped your core, you may have completely destroyed your contact surface, which may result in making the core that much harder to cool.

Scratching the top of the core won't really do much damage as it has a plastic cover slip to protect it, if you break the hard shiny stuff under it thats like glass then you are buggered.

AMD cores are surprisingly hard to kill

Yeah? Try running one without a fan/heatsink. :p

Nah, water doesn't hurt them. Water on them while they are RUNNING will be bad.;)

Stabbing it with a screw driver repeatedly would be highly effective.

You're not using a big enough hammer. Go to Home Depot and buy a 20 pound sledgehammer, then try again.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've thought for some time I could use a sledgehammer, just for breaking stuff.

Makes you wonder: how long until there's a video of somebody breaking a clawhammer cpu with a clawhammer?

I know it won't be me :)
