I agree, to an extent. Depends on the game. sometimes the CPU don't have much to do in a game, then bad stuff will sometimes happen when the multiplier is dropped. Graphic studdering or short lockups is the most common.

The only way I got UT3 to stop locking up for 10 - 30 seconds at a time was to turn cool & quiet off. In fact that is the only game so far that I ever had an issue with cool & quiet causing problems.

Wasn't the problem with UT3 solved with newer version of AMD64 CPU driver and/or UT3 patches? Never had a problem with AMD64 CnQ and I've owned two A64's.

I never had to use a driver with a CPU before. As far as I know Cool & Quiet is controlled by the BIOS (if im wrong please let me know). Unless something is getting installed that I don't know about.

I applied the new patch to UT3 and it only made it worse. After hours of trying different things I finally got it fixed by turning CnQ off.

This is a very isolated case, and I don't expect it to happen to everyone.

I am using Vista Home Premium.

XP requires a driver, Vista does not.
