AMD cool n' quiet FAQ

I've got the abit av8 s939 withe the latest v17 bios

I've read on the amd site on how to enable cool&quiet but it doesn't seem to work for me

the steps were
1) enable in bios -- done
2) install driver -- v 1.1.0.14? done
3) enable minimum power requirement in control panel --- done

what next -- just wait? I have that 3rd eye thing and the neither that or cpuid reports the mhz getting any lower without any load

has this been an issue with some motherboards and the level of bios support?

and whats the news on using cool&quiet while overclocking -- a big no no?

Not sure. On my new socket 754 system I just turned it on in bois and installed the cool and quiet driver and that was all I needed. CPUID shows it dropping to x5 multipler for 1ghz on idle. Even seen it bouncing between that, 9x and 10x while playing files in iTunes for example.

check if your device manager has a processor listing. Use driver from abit not sure if your using that one.
Since abit says version 1.1.0.1 and you said you used 1.1.0.14.

IIRC the steps are as follows:
(1) Enable CnQ AND ACPI 2.0
(2) Install A64 CPU driver & CnQ driver (Don't remember if they're two separate things.....)
(3) Set to minimal power management

That should do it. Check out Abit's site, I'm sure they have an FAQ on it. I know Asus did for my K8V
