ive jus turned cool n quiet off for good now i think, seems i either messed up the install or the drivers are jus rubbish (i followed exactly the instructions in my ASUS manual) CS;S and a few other games were running wierdly slow

i only realized when NFSU2 was gettin the same FPS at 10x7 low everything as it was a 12x10 high everything
i had been playing games with my cpu stuck at 1000mhz.

turned it off CS:S is super smoothe...well smoothe as u can expect when theres 40 people grenading everywhere

(teeside universtiy server check it)

good riddens to cool n quiet

I use QnC on my Athlon 64 3200+ and have never had a problem wih it. TRhe only time my processor downclocks is when it isn't doing much work. As soon as I start a game or do something like encoding, it pushed right back up to 2GHz.

I had to RMA my A64 + mobo (damn old BIOS), but I don't plan on using it. It's just like Folding @ Home. They claim it doesn't affect the performance of your system when gaming, but when I used to use it a while back I would notice stuttering in games only when it was running. Personally, I prefer everything to be going full blast 100% of the time.

As in own an Athlon XP.
Seems as if you don't own a C&Q capable processor, you shouldn't be in here in the first place, let alone voting in polls :p.

I'm a gamer, and I've heard too many stories like this one to not even think about turning it on. I like the benefits of C&Q, but I don't like the disadvantages due to poor implementation.

Nah...

I don't use it on my 3000+ @ 2.4ghz...CPU never goes above 50C under full Prime and gaming...

Why are you guys having so many problems? I've been using QnC for over a year with no problems. CPU idles at about 35 and never goes above 49.

It's the motherboard they are using. I had a crappy ASUS K8V that wouldn't completely run Cool & Quiet. It would bring it down to 1GHz, and leave it there.

I just turn it off when gaming. Easy to do just go to your control panel power options. Put it to anything but minimal power management then cq is disabled.

Poor smoggy, living down there and having problems with your PC? It isnt your day :p

I own an Athlon XP but the C&Q feature is something which Id love to be able to emulate. Ive heard people having problems and others not. Perhaps its a mobo thing?

Alreet pet hows things up their in geordie land?

SMOGGIE AND DARN PROUD OF IT!

ive always used it since i built my computer, but its jus since i got HL2 and a wierd failing network problem that its been playing up, i think i might try what viper suggested but if my cpu is at 1000mhz, and i switch power management to say always on (not minimal like it asks) wont i have a chance of my cpu being stuck at 1000mhz?

Slightly off-topic, but does anyone use MSI's D.O.T (dynamic overclocking) feature? It seems to work on a similar way as Cool N quiet. I have the feature on my 939pin board, but havent installed it yet.

it does work with oc's all cool n quiet does is reduce the multiplier down to about 5x wen idle so if u overclock its jus gonna idle bit higher thats all

I am running cool & quiet on my shuttle box. It is definitely nice to have. CPU drops 15-20 degrees celsius when im just browsing the net. I havent seen any problems in games. I can run Unreal 2004 at max settings and runs smooth as ever.

I run BOINC SETI 24/7 so I have zero use for C&Q.

Q&C is not an option in my BIOS anymore and even when it was you could only use it and one stick of RAM at a time. Either way my CPU runs cool enough as it is.
