I am in the market for a AMD mother board and CPU and I came accross this deal today. I have a few questions that I was hoping you could answer.

How is the Motherboard and CPU?

Is it a good deal?

How is Tiger Direct?

Will I still have the full warrently on both products?


Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know; your link is broken. The correct syntax is ' <open square bracket>L=<link name><close square bracket><URL><open square bracket>/L<close square bracket>'. Like "[ L=Anandtech Homepage ]www.anandtech.com[ /L ], but without the extra spaces.

Warranty stuff is up to the seller. If they are retail products, you should have a full warranty on them (whatever that normally is for those parts).

Hard to say, since the 'product link' page they link to is for a discontinued product (so I'm not sure what that does for the status of this bundle). The easiest thing might be to email them and ask directly.

ASUS boards are usually pretty good. I believe that's actually one of their higher-end models. I'm sure you could use google to turn up a number of reviews on that particular model, or you could check out some of the recent motherboard reviews here on Anandtech (not sure if they reviewed the A8V or not).

the 3400+ is an unofficial product. Previously newegg was the only one who had them, but i guess tigerdirect got some too. They are basically 3500+ processors that can only run at 4X HTT vs. 5X, meaning a maximum hypertransport speed of 800MHz vs. 1000. This won't make a huge difference in performance, probably almost identical in speed to a 3500, but the HTT defect makes me a bit wary of the overclocking opportunities, especially since the product is basically just a leftover from AMD. As for the price, though, it's pretty good.

If i may suggest another option, you can get socket 939 3000+ and 3200+ for $155 and 190, respectively, and newegg has an nforce4 ultra PCI express, SATA-II board, the Chaintech VNF4/Ultra, for $130. I bought the mobo and a 3000+, along with a 6600GT video card for $180 and a GB of Corsair Value Ram for $140, and my system freakin screams! I can play HL2 in high detail, 1280x1024, 2xAA without even a hiccup. Farcry runs even better, and I've heard Doom3 is a monster on a setup like that. Anyways, just my $0.02.

I have that motherboard and it's pretty solid. I had some issues with using an antec 380S power supply with it though. If you actually get your rebate that's a pretty hot deal. I paid about that much for my 3500+ alone.
