AMD Clawhammer :S :S ?

does the 64Bit claw hammer support 32bit apps? or will i have to upgrade to 64Bit apps? :S you all may think this a STUPID question but i am just making sure before i buy one (when they come out) and does anyone know when the release date is?

That's the beautiful thing about it ... full native 32 bit support and 64 bit support.

I know I"m looking forward to them because they will be reasonably priced. My dept. at work wants to do stuff with protien and DNA sequencing software, but they are too poor to afford a Sun with 12 or so gigs of usable RAM ... so the various hammers/opterons will provide an afordable alternative for software that wants more than 2-3 gigs per process.

In addition to being sickenly overpriced Suns are slow as heck too. I'm sure the Hammers will tear up the field.

You poll asks if the hammer is any good, but this question cannot currently be answered. There are very few ppl in the world who could actually tell whether it is or not.

If you want info on when the next gen AMD CPU's may be introduced, see my post about the latest roadmap.

Add the option:
It damn well better be.
I bet that AMD is depending on it to whoop anything Intel has. They better release it sometime in the next decade though.

My understanding is that you can expect to see an "official release" along with reviews and benchmarks sometime in mid 1H03, with very limited supplies of chips until sometime mid-summer.
