AMD C-50 or intel Atom N570 for netbook? Aware of reputable benchmarks/comparisons?

Hi folks

The missus is looking for a cheap netbook to travel with (super-cheap in case it gets pinched), all it needs to do is word/excel/outlook and some light browsing.

I have not been able to quickly locate any kind of reputable/comprehensive benchmark comparison of the above processors, but looking at AT Bench and the AT Brazos review of the E-350 it seems they are likely to be pretty similar generally, although the C-50 will be better for games (where not CPU-bound, which will be almost always).

What does AT suggest, and can you link me to any helpful benchmarks? :)

If they are likely to be pretty similar I'll get a C-50, at least I can then play with some older games like FarCry/UT2k4...maybe ;)

Thank you for any advice/suggestions :beer;

I recently got an Acer AO522 (C50-powered) for about $350. I haven't got much chance to play with it (only got it yesterday) so no word on its performance. What won this netbook for me is its 1280x720 resolution which is noticably higher than the typical 1024x600 resolution. Plus, the built-in GPU also piqued my interest.

how important is battery life for you? i've noticed while browsing netbooks that the atoms are generally listed as about 8 hours and the amd chips as "only" about six.

No way a c-50 will game better than an e-350. You might get better battery life(10-20%), but EVERYTHING else will suffer.

And just so you know, e350>>c50>Atom. best part - you can load up any netbook and laptop with a e350/e250/c5 with 4gb 1333MHz ram sticks and get a nice boost for about $25, and 1600 MHz speed is coming down in price too. You will not notice a boost with atom if you increase the ram speed (or size above 4gb)

Whatever netbook you go with, max-out the ram.
