AMD BTX?

I'm not sure if this should go in the CPU or Mobo column but anywho. Does anyone know if AMD and/or nVidia is planning on releasing a BTX version of thier mobos/CPUs? Because I have a Dell that has BTX and is quiet and as cool as nothing else, so I am hoping that nvidia and AMD will convert. **crosses fingers**

Officially, AMD made fun of the BTX idea, as being only required by the inefficiencies of the P4 design, and actively discouraged their MB makers from pursuing the variation. It was drawn up when Intel thought it could still keep on ratcheting up the P4 clock speed without melting the sockets out from under the cpu's (they couldn't).

Intel itself has ceased to promote the BTX proposals, and never produced any truly large quantities of BTX style MB's itself. Now, with the P4 coming to the end of its life cycle at the end of 2006, BTX isn't needed, and will likely be totally abandoned.

BTX is just for better airflow, right?
Actually, looking at the specs for it, and the several Dell implementations I've seen, it was about maximizing the cooling potential of air flow, making it perhaps be possible for extreme heat production to be a less expensive proposition than the water cooling that the OC crowd went with to handle the P4 cpus' gigantic waste heat problem.

I actually like the BTX layouy TBH.

If the industry decides to go that way, it's fine with me.

I too like the BTX layout. I'll settle with reverse ATX for now until I see some worthwhile true BTX cases.
