I just bought the AMD Barton 2500+ /w heatsink/fan to attempt my first overclock. I was wondering if the packaged heatsink/fan will be sufficient enough over overclocking or should i bite my wallet and buy an aftermarket one?

Personally, I think it will do fine. That is as long as you have decent air flow through your case. As for longevity an aftermarket HSF will cool your CPU better which in turn should make it last longer.

The stock heatsink is fine for sane overclocking. As long as you keep the voltage in the 1.7V or below ballpark you shouldn't have any trouble.

AMD is strange. In one of my Barton purchases they delivered copper base heatsink, really decent one. Then again the last Barton I purchased came with crapy aluminum heatsink. If you get that one you will need replacement for overclocking because it is not adequate for raising the voltage which you might need.
