I noticed the newegg had the Barton 2500+ for $93 and the AMD 2700+ for $141. The Barton looks like a good deal, what is the catch?

Which one should I get?

go with the barton if your going to overclock. it should do 2200mhz at default voltage with good cooling

So the only reason to get the Barton is to overclock it?

the 2700+ will be faster than the 2500+ at stock, but the 2500+ has overclocking potential. Also, its cheaper so i vote for the 2500+ as well

Yup, and the extra cache on the 2500+ will help math based stuff more than the extra clockspeed of the 2700+ will.

I recently bought the Barton 2500+ and I'm extremely pleased, I highly recommend it.
