When the black update box appears approximately every month, (and I only update drivers in response to an actual problem, and I've seen this problem across multiple driver versions), I find that until I reboot the computer, I get the following problem:

If the computer is left idle for 10 minutes, the monitor switches off. I come back to the computer, wake it out of that, the monitor comes on, but the screen is blank. Ctrl+Alt+Del makes the security options screen appear, then I can cancel that and I get back to the desktop.

Today I decided to track down how the update check is triggered (Scheduled Tasks), and I've disabled the task, so fingers crossed no more problem. I had previously tried telling it not to auto-check for updates with the tickbox on the update notification, but it doesn't seem to help.

Wait the update check is causing your monitor to be black after sleep?

The monitor is receiving a signal, otherwise it would go back to standby. C+A+D snaps the computer out of it. This only occurs during a session in which the update message has appeared.

I've been getting crazy issues as well ever since I updated my drivers. Got to love this.

I'm on 16.9.2. Apart from this issue, no problems. Since I disabled the scheduled task, no problems (though I suspect I need to wait a month or so before I know that it fixed it).

Why are you still on 16.9.2? Those are half a year old drivers.

Well they have a black screen bug :)

Not at all, especially for newer games. ReLive drivers brought a massive amount of changes and new features for older cards as well.

I already updated drivers to try and get rid of this issue. I've updated again now, but I see a grand total of one feature in the new drivers, and it's only for whitelisted games (AMD Chill).

17.2.1 drivers still seem to have this problem. I've seen it happen before, not just when the update UI has appeared in that session. I've had a blank screen twice after monitor resume today.
