Amd + Ati, we might as well write nvidia a blank check, turn around and bend over!

u all f@#*ing idiots, now that amd has bought ati, instead of spending a lot of money on R&D, which is reqd in gpu bus, amd is going to use that money for amd chips, that slows sown development of next gen gpus.

MORE IMPORTANTLY, SINCE NVIDIA IS NOW THE ONLY REMAINING GPU MANUFACTURER WHICH DOES NOT HAVE TO SUCK D##K AND ANSWER TO SOMEONE, IT WILL RAISE PRICES AND HAVE NO COMPETETION TO LOWER THEM.

NOW ALL WE WILL SEE IS IN FUTURE IS:

JANUARY 2007: -NVIDIA INTRODUCES NEXTGEN STATE OF THE ART GPUS 8000GT WITH 800 MHZ FOR $700

JUNE 2007:- NVIDIA BREAKS ITS OWN RECORDS AND INTRODUCES NEW GPUS 8500GT WITH 825 MHZ FOR $750

OH WAIT, IT F##KING GET S BETTER,

AND THEN NVIDIA ENTERS INTO CELL PHONES AND HAND HELDS, AND OTHER MANUFACTURERS HAVE TO PAY WHAT NVIDIA WANTS AND INTURN WE WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE HiGHER COSTS BECAUSE ATI IS GOING TO BE ONLY LAGGING BEHIND FROM NOW ON.

COMPETITION = PRICE WAR = FASTER TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT = LOWER PRICES

NVIDIA= NOW= POTENTIAL MONOPOLY= W=E==A=R=E==F=@=C=K=E=D!!!!

CONTD.....................

ps: by the way i love both nvidia & ati

FURTHER FUTURE FORECASTS:

JAN 2015, NVIDIA TO SELL ITS NEXT GEN 3D VIRTUAL REALITY VIDEO CARD FOR 10% OF YOUR ANNUAL INCOME OR A BLOW JOB,which will ultimately result in the rise in prices of blowjobs and stripdances at strip clubs, which then will lead to a rise in prostitution and lead to an association of strippers being formed and demanding ahem ahem, getting away from the point here................

IMAGINE INTEL without AMD
IMAGINE IE without Firefox
IMAGINE WINDOWS without MAC
BOEING without AIRBUS
GOD, IMAGINE PS3 without XBOX 360

LOL!!

That is a funny first two posts for a thread that simply repeats what others have said. You're not the first one who has not liked the merger. Others have speculated the drawback to having no competition.

Good forecasts though, that last bit with all of the "imagine"s was pretty much straight on.

Your CAPS hurt my e-ears

I also agree with the Imagine's etc being pretty spot on. We should make that a thread instead.

Thank you for the well-reasoned and thought out posts. I'll be sure to read more of your threads in the future.

I forecast that Nvidia will be bought out by VIA in 5 years(if Intel doesn't do it first) as the standalone GPU card fades into history. ATI's GPU developement leaps ahead as AMD's production tech is used in ATI's R&D. AMD sees great gains in Marketshare as their Video solutions offer superior Performance and Features to Intel's. VIA becomes a viable 3rd competitor using Nvidias GPU Tech, but is still too weak in the CPU to take more than 10% of the market. KIm Jong Il will successfully launch a ICBM that can reach Central North America. Within 4 years there won't even be PCI-e slots for Video Cards for Intel or AMD chipsets, Nvidia will try to supply chipsets with slots for each platform, but in the end their just won't be a large enough Consumer base for such setups anymore. I also predict that most of what I typed will both annoy those reading it due to formatting/organization(lack of) and will also prove to have no bearing on what actually happens like most of what everyone keeps reposting about.

well, everyone on Anandtech should donate money to start a new company to compete with Nvidia.

:)

Edit: A LOT of money

Wow, you really are an idiot (surpassing my initial thoughts of how stupid one could be)

Aside from the fact that we'll see ATI in the GPU discete market for still the next few years (beyond that is sketchy at the moment), there is no doubt that they will come out with R600 to compete head on with G80, and after R600 will be R700, there more unified architecture, which is already in development.

Get a clue before you waste space. Thanks :)

oh i have no doubt that ati will come out with r600 in the near future as it has already been developing it (unless its not already developed it), it may even be superior to nvidia for a while. but in th enear future, product leadership would be seen by nvidia and ati will just have its hands full trying to keep up!

Read this everyone, it seems Hardocp has published something worth reading.. and I will quote for everyone

AMD + ATI will continue to invest heavily in GPU development and strive to maintain our product leadership.

^^^ Best post in the thread.

be that as it may, what really happens , only time will tell!

If we assume that everything goes as logic would dictate and ATi is phased out of high end graphics within the next few years I would expect GPU prices to decline overall, seriously. Look at when high end solutions were the least expensive- it was when nV had complete domination of the market and noone remotely close to them. You could walk in and buy the hands down fastest board on the market for $300.

Doesn't seem like it makes sense? But it does. Right now parts like the x1900xtx and the 7950GX2 exist for one reason and one reason only- bragging rights and the halo effect they provide(one reason, worded two different ways :p ). If nV owns the fastest board on the market, the 7200 looks faster to the typical consumer then the 1300. Right, wrong, whatever- that is how it works. Likely moreso in the PC market then anywhere else currently. Without the need for producing these borderline offerings the price of boards will almost certainly go down. But, and of course there is a but- expect the pace of advancement to slow down a comparable rate to what you have been thinking spending would go up ;)

god damn, people are dumb. AMD will not kill off ATI, they will still be there competing with Nvidia, only NOW amd has a way to improve the performance of their CPUs with ATIs gfx cards.

oh, and if we get anything new out of this it will be an integrated graphics solution that doesn't suck quite as much d!ck
