AMD Athlons... dates?

Wierd question, but why do even the 2800+ have a copyright date of 1999 on them?? I though they were designed/manufactured like 2001/2002/2003?

my guess is that's when "Athlon" was first introduced

probally when they recieved the patent for the athlon architechture.
