Hi, My parents are going to give me 100 bucks to upgrade my system.
My current system is as follows.
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
512MB PC2700 DDR
ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB
60GB Western Digital
A7N8X
Windows XP Pro
So like i was saying i have 100 bucks to upgrade this system give or take a few bucks, anyway,
I was thinking maybe an athlon xp 2600 would fit the area. Please give me your opinions and would i see an improvement? Right now i play lots of system intensive games like UT2K3 and C&C Generals. i also play Q3 still :)
So would this upgrade suffice?

Sell the 9000 Pro for $50, and take that 50, plus that 100 and get a 9600 Pro.

is the 9600 pro's clocks 400/400, and is the memory 256bit, because 6.4GB/s mem bandwiuth is a little low. that is neweggs cheapest 9600 pro.

No, don't get that Powercolor crap... get the Sapphire below it for $5 more. The clock speeds are supposed to be 400/600... and the memory is 128 bit.

Or get an Albatron GeforceFX 5600P ... its cheat at only $125
and is allot better then a ATI 9000

but if you can get a ATI 9600 Pro at a good price at 400/600 get that instead its better ... either way your ATI9000 will not play Half Life too .. very well Maybe !!! .... you would have better gaming on one of these new cards

half life 2 was meant to be very scalable, it is supposed to be adjustable form playing on a gf2mx to pushing a 9800 pro.

my dad said i cant sell nothing he dont wanna get rid of nothing because it may be used for another comp, besides the 9000 pro is 95% as fast as an 8500, I get plenty of 3dmarks, about 8400. So would i notice a difference in performance with a 2600 form a 2000? In the mostr cpu intensive game there is(generals) would I?

If you're so set on upgrading the CPU get a 2500 and overclock it, or if you have the A7N8X Deluxe, ask for an extra $40 and get a Raptor
