Not too shabby. It's much cheaper then the E8200 and keeps up pretty well. It look like it has some overclocking head room also.

Only thing is, once you start OCing the E8200 as well...

I'm amazed at how each review i've read compares the 7750 to different CPU's.
Driver Heaven: Celeron E1400
Bit tech: C2D E5200
Tweaktown: C2D E8500
Guru3d: C2D E8200

So which processor is it really competing against? I'm guessing the celeron is a bit cheaper, the E8200/E8500 appear to be much more expensive and the E5200 doesn't apear to be for sale (at least at newegg). So I am still pretty lost. Looks like a good upgrade from a K8 at least.

It's $83 w/free shipping @ Newegg.

I wish they'd have tested it against their previous gen X2 dual core - the X2 6400+ - in one of the articles. Kind of curious how it would do.

Edit: Some do show it against the 3.1 Ghz Barcelona - better, but nothing to write home about. Guess I'll hang onto my X2 6400+ a bit longer....

Well, a couple of the articles compare it with an X2 6000+. Can't you extrapolate from there?

What do E8200's overclock too... ~3.5GHz? According to the article the 7750 is ~$80 cheaper. I guess it depends on what you feel that extra $80 gets you as the CPU buyer. For some it would be worth it, or it'd be worth just jumping to a higher performing CPU all together (E8500 for example) since you're spending significantly more then $90 anyway, but on a under $100 budget this looks like a pretty solid option.

One of the sites said the Black Edition would be $10 more and would be limited to system builders. Anyone verfiy this? And where would we Joe Schmoes, get our hands on one of these without buying a bare bones kit?

I think that's going to completely rely on how man of these AMD is "producing". As yields increase and they move to 45nm you may not see too many of these, as I'm sure they would rather be selling phenom x3's and phenom x4's with these cores.

Personal I think the should go full bore with with them as their x2 chips going forward. They may not OC as well as intels, but for $80... wow..

790gx, x2 7750, and 4gb ram for like ~$200 is pretty good. with gtx 260's and 4870's going for ~$170 today, the mid range just got a serious kick into gear.

$370 for what? 90% performance....

Well, we are system builders.

Looking at 7550/2.5ghz vs E5200/2.5ghz, I can see they are similar and often trade bench wins. Intel faster in games/encoding. AMD faster in general apps. However at burn 7xxx is quite a bit of a energy hog no surprise since it's a essentially quad core with 2 cores disabled. Only if AMD can intro a genuine dual core on new architecture can they win the power consumption aspect. Anyways, I can see going to the new core does buy AMD more performance in the low end sector.

Well financially good move for AMD, recycles defective X4s to something sellable but for end user the power consumption is just too high. Not that most regular user who are not OCing will care about power consumption/heat issues.

In several of the gaming benchmarks, the 7550 beat the E5200. Also, the 7550 matched the E5200 in x264 encoding.

Yeah, power consumption is a bit too high, but not a big deal. Especially to those of us who are used to overlclocking 110w & higher CPU's.

Best one I've seen so far is the XBITLabs review.
Look at near the end of page 4, and it points out the gains at the same clockspeed (2.7 GHz in this case). The range is from 3.5% to 28.7% gain, with the vast majority in double digits...

they should release those with the new 45nm production process, power consumption would be lower and overclock higher too.

With that said it's a great little addition to AMD's lineup. Not bad

E5200 uses the pentium name instead of core 2 duo.

i think that's because the new core has extra 3mb L3 cache.

I am sad about the fact that these processors are dual cores. I mean Quad Athlon with 4Mb L2 and a lower price tag than even the PhII series would have been lovely for value seekers.

But hell its great compared to the e8200 and that at a much lower price and at 65nm wow

Haha, silly me, guess thats why I couldnt find it at newegg. But the 7750's will make a great cpu for the pc's at the office.

It looks like a lousy CPU for the office, given its terrible power consumption vs something like the E5200 which uses less power under load than the 7750 does under idle.
