Phenom II, again, was a die shrink of Phenom. Performance improvements were largely a result of increased cache size. In applications that don't use large amounts of cache, the two CPUs perform near-identically at equal clocks.

The TLB bug was awful, but you really can't dismiss the original Phenoms without dismissing Phenom II. Phenom II was good because AMD got the clocks up, not because of the added cache.
