"AMD Athlon(tm) Prosusser"?!?

Ok so I just built my system last week and today I thought, hey, lets see what it says when you right click on my computer and go to properties.

Well for the processor it listed "AMD Athlon(tm) Prosusser"?!?

The rest was right 1.84Ghz, 512 MB of Ram.

Does it just do this for AMDs? I'm so very confused.

On my Epox 8RDA+ with an AXP 2100+ Tbred "B", when the system was overclocked I'd get all kinds of crazy CPU strings, that might have even been one of them. Newer BIOS revs. and sticking close to common AXP speeds alleviated this.

Well, here is the crazy thing:
I'm also on the Epox 8RDA+. I have a Barton 2500+ (1.83Ghz) at the stock FSB (166Mhz) and multiplier (11). I also have the most recent BIOS (one of the first things I checked for when I got my system up and running).

Weird,

Did you get your BIOS from an international site or from the US site? Prosusser looks like it might/should be french... Have you tried the 3609 BIOS? I'm using it and my Barton CPU string is correct.

I got the 2500+ and 8RDA+ when it first came out and had the same problem....went through two chips with the same thing happening.

I checked the US site (when looking for a new bios), but that is an interesting thought. Well I just checked an online dictionary and it doesn't seem to be French.

Well, I found an interesting thread on TechIMO.

The guy on there had the problem solved by flashing the BIOS...

ok so I updated the BIOS (to the same version I'm fairly sure) and it now says:
AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2500+

so I guess it worked!

thanks,

Actually, the existance of the amd "prosuser" is supposed to be top secret. Knowledge of is existance poses a grave threat to our national security. Shhhhh!

My mobile p4 1.4 when running at 12 x 200 is identified as a mobile xeon processor - unfortunately no HT
