AMD Athlon Overclocking Question

Operandi

Diamond Member

Ok, I?m planning on Building up a Socket A Athlon on MSI K7T Pro2. Right now I?m trying to decide what CPU to get. Dose it pay to go for a higher clocked one or should I just get the 700mhz? I don?t really have any set speed I?m aiming for but if a 800 will overclock significantly more then a 700 its prolly worth the extra money. What do u guys think?

Thanx

at todays prices, its a bit of a question of should you overclock... You can purchase a 1.0-1.2 ghz chip for under ~300 or less (correct me if im wrong) so is it worth it to OC... Anyway, if you do decide to OC, then maybe you could find a pretested chip and/or get someone to sell you a copper tbird (blue core) as they OC a bit better. Also, the higher speed you get, generally the more mature the core is and the better the yield and probably the higher it can get... that is a bit of a strech though but thats the way it "should" be. Anyway, good luck and hope you get a good one... for reference, I have a 750mhz copper tbird running @ 1.1ghz... hence the recomendation of a copper tbird over the alluminum ones...

You MUST overclock allways.... every cpu you get you MUST overclock...... Now run out and get your self a t-bird 750 they all seem to hit a gig and alot of them hit 1.1gig so HURRY HURRY HURRY
