I am trying to put up a new AMD system for running linux
An all-in-one-graphics-sound-network(on-board) Motherboard is what i looking for

My cpu choice is :
-------------------
AMD Athlon 3000+ (Barton Core)
or
AMD Athlon 64 2800+

Since i am new to AMD dont know much about MB Chipset . So which chipset should i go 4, also it should have drivers for linux

could some one please suggest an athlon motherboard for linux system

THANKS.

for an athlonxp go with an nforce2 based board as nvidia has reasonable linux support. I dont beleive their are any athlon64 boards wth built in graphics, so not sure what to recomend on that front.

The km400 chipset for xp cpus is the cheapest board. None I know of for athlon 64, except sis 760. Newegg sells a gigabyte model k8s760m for around $105. They are currently out of stock, but you can use their auto notify feature. You might also find it at other venders on pricewatch.

The only ones doing Linux support properly are VIA. I'd go with a KM266 board not a KM400, simply for the maturity of the display driver.

^What he said. You might also want to check out Love Sources for a kernel. I don't know about integrated graphics support but my nForce2 ran nicely on those. No downloading of nVidia's drivers. I watched a teacher struggle with computer freezes trying to use nVidia's junk. I hope that might be of some use to you

Nforce soundstorm doesn't work right under linux, so I'd stay away from that.
It doesn't have hardware acceleration.
I'm not sure how VIA is but I've heard it works better.

I am also looking for and AMD athlon motherboard for linux, but am looking to implement a MythTV setup. Thus, drivers are very important. I heard that there are issues with TV capture cards and VIA chipsets under both linux and windows, so I was told to look for a NVidia chipset. However, from what I have read on this thread, some of you say otherwise.

So if I was looking for a motherboard that had built-in audio and good multimedia performance:
What is the best valued system that has linux support and can be implemented to be used as a PVR running linux?

Thanks,
Brian
