the problem:
hi! i just reinstalled windows 2000, and started putting my pci cards back inside. the network card went in first, seamlessly. my other pci, the sound card, a turtle beach montego 2, didn't. i used the drivers from vortex of sound, as i remember them working before, but they didn't now. when i unistanell and reinstall the card windows detects it as 2 different things, maybe 3, i forget, but one is like the audio controller, the other is like the multimedia controller, and maybe, but i don't know for sure, the last is the multimedia controller, and for at least 2 of those, a message box pops up and says, 'Unable to Load Device Driver'
the specs:
turtle beach montego 2
asus a7v with most recent bios and drivers for every little piece of it (promise controller, via 4in1, etc)
realtek 8139 with most recent driver and bios
amd athlon 1ghz
geforce2 mx (hercules 3d prophet 2 mx) with most recent driver and bios
the attempts:
the first install i ignored the warning or something (i don't remember, in fact i doubt, that the message box popped up)... and got a stop error on subsequent restarts, which i alleviated with a trip to safe mode where i uninstalled the drivers from the system dialog. so, i reinstalled the drivers, got the message box error, uninstalled the drivers. i've done this a few times for a while now. then i re-downloaded the drivers from http://www.vortexofsound.com/drivers/drivers.htm
i get a 0xc0000034 error code returned according to the messagebox, which i strongly doubt is equivalent to its stop error psuedo-equivalent...
i have tried placing the sound card every pci slot, to no avail...
for those unfamiliar with the asus a7v, it is a troublesome mother board with tons of problems all around...
for those unfamiliar with the turtle beach montego 2, turtle beach stopped supporting it right before win2000 came out, and, accordingly, their faqs virtuall demand an upgrade to their santa cruz...
