I have an Athlon 900 with an Asus A7V KT 133 Motherboard.

The ASUS Probe tool tells me the Processor is running at 900 with a max of 1.2 Ghz. The question is ... Is this a 1.2 Ghz processor and I am stupidly underclocking it....or is it a 900 mhz that I can overclock to a max of 1.2 Ghz...

Thanks in advance for any advice on this matter...

You probably have a 900MHz chip. SANDRA shows me basically the same thing:
Model Information -- Athlon (Thunderbird) 650 - 1.2G 1.7 - 1.8V

If you ever remove your heat sink look at the first line on your CPU. My 900MHz has these markings: A0900AMT3B. The third, fourth and fifth numbers are the rated speed.

Do you plan to OC it?

You don't have a 1.2GHz. Probe is merely telling you that your motherboard will support up to a 1.2GHz processor.
