I'm going to start a build tonight based on an AMD X2 5000 CPU. I've found conflicting information regarding the installation of CPU drivers and the Dual Core Optimizer.

After reading quite a bit my guess is that with Windows XP SP3, I will not need to install the Dual Core Optimizer, and if I disable the Cool and Quiet feature, I will also not need the CPU driver. I should be able to just plug it in and go without any special configuration.

Does that sound right ?

I think you want to run either the AMD dual core optimizer or the Windows API patch - but doing both creates problems.

If SPk3 has the API patch I would suggest not loading the AMD optimizer ...

Thanks for the comments. I'm going to skip installing any type of optimizer or CPU driver and count on XP SP3 to handle it. There does not seem to be much discussion on the web regarding this issue, so I assume it is really not a big deal.
