Newegg has a combo right now where FX55 is being sold with basically free ASUS A8N32-SLI for $811. Or there's 4800+ Toledo with same motherboard for $812. The price is basically same, what should I get? Toledo is dual core and FX55 is single core.

I would go dual core. The reason is simple, they multitask better and if your a gamer, games are shifting to dual core support. Dual core is the way to go.

The dual core every time. What are you planning to do with this computer? I only ask because you might want to reconsider your choices of components.

4800+ for sure. With A8N32-SLI it's almost guaranteed to hit 2.7~2.8GHz. I'm currently testing mine @2.88GHz.

Then again everyone here will recommend dual-core Opterons instead, and I have to agree.

If u want single core there is no use getting an expencive one, just pick up a 3200+ and overclock.
About the dual core i would recomend a 4400+ over that 4800+, cause the price is huge compared to the diffrence it will make, and then again u will be able to overclock anyways.

I'm upgrading from Athlon XP 3200. Buying mobo, videocard and optionally more memory. here's my system:

barton m 3200+ @ 2.4ghz (200x12)
1gb kingston hyperx 3200 (2x 512)
epox 8rda3+ pro
visiontek x850xtpe

*audigy 2
*nec 3520 16x dwd-rw
*hitachi sata2 160gb
*wd 800jd sata
*wd 60bb ata
*maxtor 200gb ata
*antec smartpower 500w
*some antec case
(stuff marked with * goes to new computer)

What I wanted to get is: Radeon X1900XTX, two more matching sticks of Hyperx for 2GB and mobo with processor. Computer is obviously for gaming.

I bought a 4800+ about 2 weeks ago and I love it. It'll do 2.7GHz easy, I'm just waiting for my DDR500 to get here so I can really see what the chip will do.

ps - dual core is awesome. everything runs faster on my system even though my CPU clockspeed is identical to what I upgraded from (3700+ @ 2.4GHz).

Got 4800+
Here's full system info:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Toledo 1GHz HT Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA4800CDBOX - Retail
DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
OCZ Gold Edition 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 500 (PC 4000) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model OCZ5002048ELGE-K - Retail
SAPPHIRE 100150 Radeon X1900XTX 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - OEM

Took me 3 hours to set everything up, because I have pretty small case. Had to remove 2 hard drives (out of 4) and use 5.25" to 3.5" converter because videocard sticks out to the HD cage and just one usable space for HD left. Anyway, got it up and running. OC'ed processor a bit to 2.6, Everest shows it as "5200+". Just for the heck of it ran 3dmark2001 and got 35000 marks Sandra shows 6666/6600 on memory bandwidth test and 23600/10966 on CPU arithmetic test.

Also a question, when all 4 memory sticks are plugged in (2x1GBxDDR500 & 2x512MBxDDR400) the computer doesn't start and just beeps (1 long beep). I checked the manual and 1 long beep means no memory?

Could be a bad run of memory. Happend to a computer I was fixing. Test each set individually and figure out which one is failing. Then RMA it I guess.

Hell of an upgrade though, hope everything works out ;)

They work great separately. I had Kingston for about 2 years and never had problems with it. Can it be that it's because one pair is DDR4000 and one is DDR3200 ?

Could be that your command rate is wrong

Could be that your trying to run the ram to fast.

Could be that the memory controller cant handle 4 sticks at that overclock.

No matter your losing more performance that what its worth to have those 2 additional sticks in there.
