Hola

I'm trying to figure out if anyone has heard that AMD will be revisiting some of their slower speeds 64 bitties (<---3000+) with the new socekt 939. They didn't seem to introduce any speeds that retailed for less than $489!! All the articles talk about the speeds they're ramping up to, but nothing else. I'd really appreciate any links. thank you

Yeah I was dissapointed when 939 came out with only $450-500 cpus as the lowest you could go with. 754 isn't much slower without dual channel ram and most often they have 1mb lvl2 cache instead of the 512kb that most of the 939s are sporting. 754 also has a new set of k8t800 pro and nf250gb boards coming out with better performance and overclocking abilities.

One thing the 939 chips have over the 754 is when it comes to the hyper transport though. 939 chips have 1ghz*ddr 2ghz instead of the 800mghz*ddr 1.6ghz hp. Still 3200+ 3000+ are a lot cheaper leaving you with more money for better ram which could make a world of difference in performance.

I remember reading about how there's gonna way more S754 CPUs shipped than S939 CPUs until end of this year or even next year.

Well from AMD themselves say they're going to stick to the new socket 939 for almost three years, so i wanted to buy a mob and then upgrade the cpu if neccessary. But even if i could i don't think i'd pay $500...

Even if the socket itself was to last 3 years, chances are some stupid changes in this or that (FSB and voltage/power come to mind) will force you to upgrade your board. Plus what are you going to do with ur $500 CPU after upgrading to another one? Remember the board that it originally sits in will be occupied by the new CPU...
