This .EXE driver is a user friendly localized software installation of the driver designed for end-users. This driver supports AMD Athlon 64 processor on Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2003 SP1.

What's the difference between this and Cool'n'Quiet? Is it needed?

Cool and Quiet requires both bios support and the driver. On single-core A64s the driver just enables C'n'Q. With X2s the driver enables cool and quiet and adds a line to boot.ini that seems to help some people with their game problems.

On a recent Epox EP-9NPA + Ultra motherboard driver install CD this AMD Athlon 64 driver was on it, but not on the CD that came with the same board I purchased a few months ago. I have Cool'n'Quiet enabled in my bios and it is functioning fine without the AMD driver. In device manager under Processor properties the driver was Microsoft, 4-1-2004, ver. 5.1.2600.0. When I installed this driver it's now AMD, 10-26-2004, ver. 1.2.2.0. To uninstall the AMD driver run the downloaded amdcpu.exe file again.
Does the AMD driver improve anything or should I just stick with the Microsoft driver?
