I have just purchased a motherboard that has Cool & Quiet, I turned it on but it didn't seem to work but I did some research and got it working. Click the Link below and you'll goto the AMD webpage and download the AMD Athlon? 64 Processor Driver for Windows XP, Version (exe) 1.1.0.14

Install the Drivers and restart with Cool & Quiet enabled in your bios once you boot up do the following:

Right Click on desktop and go properties
Click on the screensaver tab
down the bottom in moniter power click power
and select minimal power Management in the powe schemes selection box.
Now Rebot your pc and you should have cool and Quiet cranking

So then check your CPU temperature, Fan Speed, and Vcore voltage. they all should be different.

Are there any more problems with this software? When I had an Athlon 64 back in the beginning of the year, it did not work correctly. It would be a great + if it did! Anyone have any feedback?

Well, For some reason it would not kick in.... Real-Time speeds stayed at 2.0Ghz. Might have been a problem on my end. I am really happy to see that it is working. I just helped a friend of mine order a new rig from NewEgg. 64-3000+, Epox NF-250, etc. I will have to tell him about it. Right now, I am happy with my P4-3.0C even though it is definately slower than a comparible A64.

Now I just got my 3200+ running 2 nights ago. I have it overclocked at 2.5ghz/278fsb/9x @ 1.65v. How would the cool and quiet work with the overclocking? Take this is a stupid question but I would think this feature would only be good for running stock speeds? So it basically just runs it slower kinda like a laptop processor, then when you open up some app like a game it speeds back to full?

I am also using a Tornado/SLK948u with a fan speed controller. The RPM 3pin header is running directly to the board though.

Just tried this driver and made my system lock up at ever boot. Tried to rebott 3 times and no go. Had to boot in safe mode and remove it and now everything works again.

So maybe works for some but not me.

I'm overclocking and it works fine. It goes like this: At stock speeds my 3500 runs at 11x200 (2.2ghz). When CnQ kicks in it just lowers the multipler to 5x200 (1.0ghz). It also lowers the voltage from 1.5 to 1.125.

With my system overclocked, I'm running 11x220 (2.42ghz). When CnQ kicks in now, it does the same thing with lowering the multiplier, but it goes to 5x220 (1.1ghz).

i have the msi k8n neo with the 1.1 bios and the latest amd driver installed for xp. enabling cool'n quiet crashes my machine. i normally run it at 240fsb x 10 = 2.4ghz @ 1.55v. with cool'n quiet enabled it will idle at 240fsb x 5 = 1.2ghz @ 1.1v. however i just crashed twice in windows with this enabled so i'm gonna go back to using my original settings. its too bad, my idle temp went from 35c to 29c with it enabled.

So when does it drop the speed? Just in regular apps? Or just in idle. I would rather not lose any speed any of the time I am using the system. Also do you all think 1.65v is safe for 1-2years life span?

CPU is running cool at 30 degrees. :)

Seems to kick in at idle state, but not sure. If I'm just web surfing or doing low-power things, it's down at 800MHz, but I'm not noticing any performance difference at those times. So it's all good.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that flashing your BIOS to 1.6 will fix the lock up problems, I flashed mine before I installed my New AMD Driver. With the original bios version 1.0 I couldn't chnge anything on my FSB it would lock up, but now I flashed the bios to 1.6 its all fixed :). Now all they need to do is fix that god damn mis reading of the temperature.

I have the K8T NEO-FIS2R Motherboard to.

It froze my windows solid on reboot and then I couldn't get the cpu speed reset in the bios... took my about 10 reboots before I got it to work again with myEpox 8kda3j motherboard. I think I'll stay away from this until it's addressed in a bios update. My board supposedly supports it and it was on in the bios.

Asus has a CnQ monitor program that came with my A8V. I've had it running and watched it as I do regular PC work. It's in quiet mode whenever your PC is at idle. It will constantly change as you do other regular stuff. For example, if I open a program or click a weblink, etc., the CnQ monitor will show the speed kick up for a fraction of a second and then when it's done doing whatever, it will come back down. Which is cool because you don't loose any speed and it kicks up and down so fast it's not enough to raise temps. If I'm playing games or encoding, etc., it will constantly be at full speed and the temps will start to rise. So don't worry, you don't loose any speed running this at all.

Also, I have run a bunch of tests (Sandra, 3Dmark, PCmark, etc) and they have ALL been almost identical with CnQ on or off.

I installed Asus Probe on my K8V SE & noticed that the cpu fan is shutting down until the cpu temp reaches around 55c, then it starts back up. Is this normal? Something i've done? I installed, then uninstalled the cool & quiet software. What's a safe temp for a non-overclocked A64 3200+?

Hi,
I notice the cool and quiet is for Windows ME and 2000, don't see one for Windows XP. About the CPUdriver.exe file, is that for cool and quiet?
Thanks.

So how do you know if the cool and quiet works? I just want to know how do I know the cool portion would work? The quiet won't work for mine b/c I got it on the fan controller and not on board.
Thanks.

cool and quiet is already on your motherboard, you should have the program on your motherboard cd. And you have to install the AMD CPU driver for XP for it to work. And yes it does make my fans a little more quieter.
