Aw hell pulled the trigger... and I just bought 2x Opty 165s... ugh... now the markets gonna be flooded on eBay... maybe I'll sell the proc off here on the FS/T forums at a bit of a loss.... I was just really interested in the HDD :) Even if I ebay the processor for $160, its a $40 SATA HDD :) And I got no more places to put a PATA drive on my board... must... have.... SATA

Wow.. I currently have an X2-3800+ with an ASRock Dual Sata. Will this net me that much of a performance gain? The most stress I put on my computer is video encoding and the ocassional FEAR or BF2.

dual cores really perform very well on video encoding, so don't change for that. your gaming would probably improve with the FX55, except for any newer games in the future that might take advantage of dual cores.

The retail box 3 year warranty is for end user (you and me). The 1 year OEM warranty is for whatever company purchased it from AMD (or Intel).

I ordered this combo but I'm wondering if the Opteron 165 dual core and a 250gig HD for about $30 more would be a better deal. Could someone help me with the decision? I am putting this in a Aopen XC Cube barebones. Thanks in advance.

Do these chips have a function that can automatically clock down the CPU to save energy similar to my laptop? If not can i add it someway?

They're catching on, price up to $220 now.

Edit: Interesting...if you go to the PC, and do the combo from there, it's $220. Go to the HD though, and the combo is still $200.

Tricky!

Edit2: Nevermind, i'm going crazy. $200 is oem bundle, $220 is retail.

if you are referring to Cool & Quiet, all Athlon chips in the few years have it.

All Athlon 64 chips support it. It saves 40w on my CPU when it is idle. Be sure to install the Windows driver and set the power settings right or it will not work.

So I bought one and it came this week. As I was about to install the hard drive I noticed that on the jumper there is a little plastic (maybe) piece on two pins. The sticker on the drive seems to indicate that there will be something there to limit the data transfer speed to 1.5 Gb/s.

Did anyone else notice the little piece there? Will this limit the data transfer speed?
