AMD Athlon 64 Cool 'n' Quiet

Anybody out here using cool 'n' quiet on their amds? It is good? is it bad? Is it good for gaming? What are your guys's toughts on the cool 'n' quiet deal?

I just started using it and it seems nice, however is there anyway to slow down my Vantec Tornado 92mm fan while cpu is down clocked?
 
You'd need a temperature regulated fan controller. If you have a 90nm cpu you might be able to just low down the fan all the time by feeding it 7v or something of the sort.

is that temperature regulated fan controller something extra you buy and attach? or is it an option on your cpu fan?
 
I use C N' Q on my OCed 3000+. It's nice, volts and temps are nice and low when I'm surfing the web or w.e and when I game it ramps up to full speed. Keeps me at 33C idle and around 45C~ load. 1.3v at idle and 1.6v at load. I'm still weary about having voltage at 1.6v but I need it for my stable OC so CN'Q is a nice solution to my worries.
 
yeah i also have problem with my cooling i have amd athlon 64 3500+ on msi k8n neo2 p mobo with XP-90C cooling and it idles at 50'C... i dont know wtf...

Cool N' Quiet works quite well even if you overclock your system. If you don't know how it works, basically the CPU's multiplier is lowered (so it runs at lower MHz) as well as the voltage being reduced (this makes it run cooler). And because the CPU is running cooler the CPU fan doesn't have to spin as fast to cool it and therefore it runs more quietly too. When you need full power (such as when you fire-up a 3D game) the CPU speed kicks back up.

You don't need a fan controller to slow down your Vantec Tornado. Just follow these easy steps:

(1) Enter the K8N Neo2's BIOS by hitting the "Delete" key at postup

(2) Select the Hardware Monitor (H/W Monitor) section of the BIOS

(3) Select "Smart CPU Fan Target". When you enable this option you are given several "Target" CPU temps (in Celsius) to choose from. The CPU fan speed is dynamically controlled by the motherboard's onboard temp sensor and will adjust the CPU fan speed to keep the CPU temp within the target temp.

(4) Select "System/CPU Fan Tolerance". Here you select a fan tolerance value (in Celsius) for a specific range of the System/CPU fans. If the temps of the fans reach the "maximum" threshold you have set the fans will speed up to keep the temps within the maximum temp ranges. If the temps reach the "minimum" threshold you have set the fans will slow down to keep the temps stable.

BTW, you will find this info on page 3-22 of the K8N Neo2 manual.
