I have a ECS NFORCE 3 A939 motherboard and my temps are through the roof even at idle..65C. I was wondering if it was possible that the sensor is just wrong and if not what can I do? Also is there a prog besides motherboard monitor to check the temps as that prog doesn't work with my motherboard.

When i touch the heatsink/fan its not warm at all , this heatsink fan combo came pregreased , is it possible that the heat transfer is not happening since there isnt enough grease on it or something like that?

Hardware monitor programs aren't always accurate. Check the temp in your bios hardware monitor program. Hit the reset button (on your case) next time you're at 65c, and see what the bios readings are.

Thats where I am getting the 65C temp from , the bios. MBM doesn't support my motherboard so I can't use that. I also don't think cool and quiet is working and I just installed a prog from AMD's website called AMD DASHBOARD that supposedly checks out your cpus voltage and temp info and that prog says im at 40c but it never changes at all from 40 from the minute i start it so I doubt its working correctly. Don't really know what to do , shouldn't the heatsink be pretty warm , I just don't think its transferring the heat off the cpu but who knows..it came pregreased and I had no trouble putting it on my cpu and locking it down.

remount the heatsink and check for proper connection, after doing that if the programs/bios still do the same well ur mobo is not detecting the temp properly.

I press the power switch after letting it rest for 3 hours and less then 5 secs later i am in the bios looking at the temp and it already says 53 degrees celsius so I have to assume within 10-15 seconds there is no way in hell its already that hot so it must be the sensor on the motherboard is broken.

I had the exact same problem with my 3500 and abit AV8 MB - Is ur CPU a 130nm? You just need to get some decent thermal paste and perhaps a new heatsink if you're using the stock one (it sucks) - I was booting in at 53 and couldn't work out why!
