I am thinking of buying the Athlon 64 3500+ CPU to add to the Asrock 939Dual-SATA2 Board. I have Windows XP Pro...Do I need the windows XP X64 edition to work with this CPU? Also Newegg offers the Athlon 64 3500+ Venice, and Orlenes close in price between. Which should I go for? Thanks much for any input.

No, you don't need XP x64. In fact I would not recommend it at all. In a nutshell if you have more than 4GB of memory that would be the only reason I would consider it. However this is my opinion, and if you do a form search you'll pull up additional cons.

Since AMD dual core cpu's had a massive price drop yesterday you may want to consider a 3800+ X2 for $170

the venice is for socket 939 mobos and the orleans is for AM2 mobos, you have a 939 so you should get the venice

Thanks for the advice.......I am looking at the athlon 64 because it is about $70.00 less. I don't know if the difference between the two really, really makes a difference.
