AMD Athlon 64 3000+ HS

I just got the Athlon 64 3000+ with Asus Motherboard and am currently using the standard Heatsink that was included with the processor. Im running at about 42 degrees C at idle and was wondering if that is about average for the CPU. I would like to upgrade the HS and wanted to know of a good bang for the buck type HS I could use on my system. Any recommendations?

I have the stock cooler on my Athlon 64 3400+ and idle temps are 36-37C. Full load it gets up to 44C. I have a Lian-Li case with excellent ventilation though. The stock AMD cooler for the 64 is very good in my opinion.

Nice temps 😎 I'm using the Alpha (on a 3000+), but with low-rpm 80mm fans. With a Vantec Stealth, it is doing about 41C idle on the K8V Deluxe. With an 18dB NMB ultra-quiet fan, it does more like 46C idle. I'm not using Cool 'n Quiet, however. What about you guys?

I idle at 34C on my A64 3200, using a Thermaltake Silentboost K8 (very quiet) and AS5. (Cool and Quiet disabled)

Under a Prime95 load it was about 44C. Case temp was 35-36C.

As a week-old upgrader, this was a surprise, as my 1800+ paly would idle at just under 50C using an after market copper heatsink.

But as for the original question, idle at 42C with the included sink sounds just fine. The Silent boost K8 can be found on PriceWatch for about $28 shipped, if anyone cares.
