i have successfully unlocked the athlon 420... 2,6 gig triple core to quad core phennom and running it at 3.12gig with ddr3 1333 patriot ram 8gig stick m5a78l-m/usb3 asus mobo ..sideon 120 coolermaster liquid cooler ....it was unstable on air cooling but solid as with the liquid cooling..some may get better out of the cpu speed wise but at 3.12 it works great running linux mint on the system with 2gig r7 200 ati video and corsair CSS550M power supply...i set the bios to manual clocking and raised the bus to 240 ..left the pci bus at 100 ...unlocked the forth core as some may be not able to you know how the amd chips go you can with some and some you cannot.....i also tried it in a asrock ext4 990fx but found it not to be stable..i have more faith in asus as far as core unlockers go..i know it`s no best of a machine but as i only had a low end budget it worked out great ....

I have an X3 that I unlocked and completely forgot I did it. Put it in another motherboard recently and then went hmmm what's going on here? Oh right it's not an X4. :D It won't run stable the one core fails at 3.2 Ghz but runs fine at 3.1 so good enough.

i could not get it much over 3.12 but had it at 3.18...and my linux install did not like it...leave it at 3.1 seems the best...i am using it right now with the r7 200 ati gigabyte 2gig card video semms ok and generally plays just about everything i choose to play movie wise..

use PhenomMSRTweaker to overclock the other cores higher and keep the 4th core at 3.1ghz
