AMD Athlon 3200.....what heatsink/fan ??

Can someone recommend a heatsink/fan for a AMD Athlon 3200. Preferrable something from newegg.com I currently have a 2800 CPU but have ordered a 3200 and not sure if the same heatsink/fan will work. It is a stock heatsink/fan that came with the 2800. I have 1 Gig of Kingston DDR400 Not a big overclocker. Just gonna run 400 FSB with the 3200. I have a Asus A7N8X-X motherboard. Thanks.

The Speeze/Spire Falcon Rock is excellent for the money. But it is kind of big on top 😉 so you have to check for clearance.
.bh.

Here, have a  !

I always find it funny when people order up the OEM processors claiming they need to save money. Only to turn around and spend more than the difference to get a heatsink and fan for that same processor, thus spending more than if they just went and got the retail version. The OEM 3200+ on newegg has ~$2 shipping (fedsux saver/ground) while the retail has free shipping... Factor in shipping on getting the heatsink after the processor and the cost difference gets even smaller.

There's no reason to not go with the stock/retail HSF ESPECIALLY if you're not going to overcrock the chip.

Stock cooling tends to be barely adequate and fairly loud, there?s your reason. Even if noise isn't a concern I always use OEM cpu's as there are better HS/F's that can be had while spending roughly the same amount of money.

I'm not having any issue with the stock cooling on my Athlon64 (now that summer has broke and the room temps are reasonable). Of course, I'm not overcocking my processor, nor do I intend to. When it reaches the point where I need more speed from it, I'll simply get a new mobo and processor and upgrade to one of the newer, faster chips. The old fans might have been loud, but that's not the case these days. Of course, you could always swap out the fan if you want it to be lower in dba. But, the stock still does a good job at keeping the chip cool.

What cooler can you find that runs under $15-20 and is worth using? Just about any cooler I've seen, that's worth a damn, will run over $30 which puts you over the cost of the retail processor.

Yeah, your right for the price it?s hard to find something that?s worth the effort. But Athlon 64's are high-end CPUs so I tend to go with high-end cooling, the price difference hardly matters in the end. Besides I've been less then impressed with stock coolers in the past, maybe they have gotten better but I'd rather get something I know I can count on.

I bought the 3200 CPU off of an ebay store. It didn't come with a heatsink/fan. I was just going to replace my 2800 with the 3200 and use the same heatsink/fan that that came with my 2800. Just wanted to make sure that it was sufficient. Thanks.

I have the Athlon 64 3400+ chip in my rig, along with the multiple drives (three optical and two hard at the moment)... Today (been running since yesterday, typically I turn the system off when not using it) it's been running in the low to mid 30's on the processor. It's tickled 40C when doing more intense tasks, but only briefly.

As for getting a processor off of ebay, I'd never do it... ever. I'd rather spend a couple of dollars more and go with a place that's been in business for a decent amount of time and come recommended by others in the industry. Newegg is one such place (was actually put onto them by a distributor I use, NEVER had them say look on ebay).
