AMD Athlon 3000 64bit

Hi,

I need some clarification please. Did the "Athlon 3000 64bit" ever run on ddr333? I ask this because I bought some memory that was described to work with this descriptor (the above quote) and it is ddr333 not ddr400. I know the Athlon 3000 XP could run ddr333 but I didn't think the Athlon 64 could.

Thanks,

Ben

i always assumed that as long as ddr1 is in there, you won't have a problem....ddr333 is definitely slower than ddr400, though

That is a problem. I have an HP pc that I put an x2 3800+ in and I have absolutely no BIOS control. Oh well, I put it up in the F/S forum.

1. Remove any other sticks of RAM that aren't identical to your new DDR333 from the motherboard DIMM slots.

2. If possible, reset the CMOS using the motherboard jumper (alternatively remove the CMOS battery & allow to discharge). Return to original positions before trying to boot.

I will try that. But is the loss from ddr400 to 333 considerable and quantifiable?

not really; for athlon 64's it's mostly about processor speed.

Agreed.

Quantifiable, yes by benchmarks; considerable, no because most everyday apps/games aren't memory bandwidth intensive.

im running my old 3000+ with some 333mhz chips as well, you may have to get some ddr400 to post with it and change the voltage and clock to the right speed. but in theory it should just auto detect

Hi, are you using a Asus board? My old A64 Board, the Asus K8V-SE will not post with 2 sticks of RAM in it. Try adding in 1 stick of RAM.
