Sweet -went to the Amd reality check event in Detroit last week and won a 2200xp processor, they called earlier this week and confirmed my shipping info so now i have to make up a box to run it. I have absolutely no amd/ath experience whatsoever, and my biggest box so far (lol) is a pii 450, i think i would like to get an Asus board a7n8x. Hoping that it wont be out of date/un upgradeable in 2 weeks..Any suggestions are appreciated.
-I already have a W.D. 80 gig 8meg cache HD to go in it. Any recommendations on DDR memory, i was thinking pc3200..Thanks in advance

I'm a big Asus fan myself and am planning on getting an A7N8X Delux mobo too. Sounds like a good combo to me, though you may have to run the CPU at 200MHz FSB to get the most out of your RAM.

its a good combo that most likely wont go out of date for a while
its got nforce2 chipset, which is afaik, the newest chipset for amd atm

however the xp2200+ tbreds were not really good overclockers(as good as the new xp2400+'s)
but its all good

The nForce2 chipset is great. There seems to be very few bugs associated with it (There will never be none with any piece of hardware). Not only is the overall performance top-notch, but the IDE performance seems to kick the butt of VIA. Not that VIA chipsets are so terrible, but the nForce2 seems to have some definite advantages. This is especially true because this time around nForce2 is launching with a variant that doesn't use onboard video to keep prices down! You can get a A7N8X without onboard video for around $130 from Pricewatch.
